Sung worship at the heart of the city
Leeds Minster, long known as Leeds Parish Church, was dedicated in 1841 and given Minster status in September 2012. Its musical life owes a great deal to the Victorian vicar Walter Hook, who brought in weekday choral services, and in March 2025 the Minster started a children's choir. It is the civic church of a city that still sings.

Half believe, half do not: why that matters
Leeds is almost evenly divided. In the 2021 Census, 42.3% of residents described themselves as Christian and 40.2% said they had no religion, with Muslims at 7.8%. That is still more than 340,000 Christians in one city. Catholic Leeds gathers at Leeds Cathedral on Cookridge Street, an Arts and Crafts Gothic church opened in 1904 and restored in 2005 and 2006.

Tiled Hall Café. A Victorian tiled hall that was once the library's reading room, opened in 1884, linking Leeds Central Library and Leeds Art Gallery. Central, warm and easy to leave if it is not going well.
Roundhay Park. More than 700 acres, one of the biggest city parks in Europe, with Waterloo Lake and the Tropical World glasshouses in Canal Gardens.
Kirkstall Abbey. Founded in 1152 by monks from Fountains Abbey, it is the most complete set of Cistercian ruins in Britain. The grounds sit in a public park on the River Aire, ideal for a riverside walk and a conversation about the people who prayed there. There is a visitor centre too, handy if the Yorkshire weather turns.
